There was a wonderful article published by the Daily Mail about how childhood sweethearts bumped into each other again after 18 years, re-kindled their true love and eventually got married.
Clare Dickson, a British Woman, first met Pascal Bernard a Frenchman when they were teenagers. They first met when Clare was on holidays with her older sister visiting the costal resort of Royan in south-west France. At the time, Clare was 12 at the time and Pascal was 15. The couple lost contact after their teenage encounter.
Clare returned to Royan in 2007 for a holiday with her father Richard and ran into Pascal by chance. It seems that true love never dies as the couple fell in love and were married just last month.
‘Everyone comments on what a fairytale story we have, but it’s not just a story to us. It’s our life and our love has a stronger bond than I could ever imagined.
‘I remember laughing lots with him, despite my lack of French and his of English. It didn’t matter though as we had a connection.
‘Neither of us recognized it at that age to be the love that was later to show itself. It is a real fairytale story.’
‘I have made huge life changes for the man I love, some people say to me that I have given up so much for Pascal but I don’t see it like that.’
‘I had been single for a long time and wasn’t looking for a relationship. I was in France to spend some quality time with my dad.
‘On top of that, my life was in New Zealand. I had my residency and a good job in Christchurch. That was always my dream.
‘It was like being hit with a thunderbolt. As soon as Pascal entered the room at his mother’s house, my heart did a double flip. It was a mutual sensation that is hard to explain.
‘I wasn’t to fall in love with a Frenchman but that wasn’t what fate had in store for me. I am a very happy lady, married to a gorgeous, kind man who I am deeply in love with.’

Clare has now moved to Royan and the couple have opened up a fish and chip shop there. It’s nice to see that fairy tale romances like this still happen. True Love does exist after all.
